Acoustic Guitar Reviewed

Before buying a new acoustic guitar, be sure to check out some acoustic guitar reviews. Two kinds of reviews you’ll find are ones written by experts who sample and play a wide variety of guitar, and reviews written by ordinary people who just want to give you an opinion about how the guitar works, sounds and feels to them.

Only consider an acoustic guitar review to be expert if it is written by someone with several years of guitar experience under their belt. Such experts will have information about several different guitars made by several different manufacturers. A good reviewer will be objective in pointing out the good and bad points associated with any acoustic guitar, despite any personal preference they may have. If they do have a bias, they will own up to it upfront. They do not have to have a Bachelor’s Degree in music to be helpful. They just need to be very familiar with acoustic guitars and prove it to you enough that you will feel comfortable taking their advice into consideration when shopping for you new guitar.

If you want acoustic guitar reviews, you should look for a site that has multiple reviews of each guitar by many different musicians. Many music stores also have websites with user reviews. Each guitarist plays in different types of venues, different kinds of bands and has a unique style of music. A guitarist from a band that plays at wedding receptions has much different instrument preferences from a guitarist who plays in a rock band. Look for reviews for people who play in the same area that you do, or someday hope to. You can read more free advice on Acoustic Guitar at http://www.GuitarReviewed.com

There are a couple of tricks you can use when searching for acoustic guitar reviews by experts or users. One thing you can do is to put quotes around particular phrases like: “acoustic guitar reviews.” When using Yahoo, this trick can reduce the number of hits from 17 million, when the search is performed without quotes, to a little over 6,000, when it is used with quotes.

When searching for specific individual acoustic guitar reviews, this trick will also work. Let’s say you want to find reviews about the Martin DX1. Typle in that phrase in Yahoo search and you’ll end up with about 38,000 results. But if you type in the same phrase using quotes like this “martin dx1″ you’ll get only about 10,000.

You can also use another little trick the next time you perform a search. If you put the plus sign (+) right next to a word you want in every hit, youll be able to narrow your search even more. Martin dx1 review will bring you about 9 hits and that is due to the fact that youre only seeing the sites that contain that exact phrase.

If you try something new by entering this- “martin dx1″ into your search bar, you’ll get upwards of 500 hits. To find something more specific, like the action on a particular guitar, you can add that to the query as long as you add a plus sign to it.

Acoustic guitar reviews will be easier to find, which will make your decision easier if you take advantage of these two small search tips.

How To Pick Out The First Guitar

by Pamela Johnson

When it comes to finding an acoustic beginner guitar, there are many things to consider. It may actually be worth spending enough money for a high quality guitar, if you have it. The ease with which the guitar plays and the sound it makes really is related to the quality and price.

If you’re looking for a high-end acoustic beginner guitar, an excellent choice is the Seagull S6, costing about $400-$500. It may be more expensive than what most beginners are prepared to pay, but it is an exceptional guitar for the price. Even professionals often keep their Seagull S6 after they’ve purchased many other guitars. Another good high-end acoustic beginner guitar is the Washburn D10S. Acoustic Guitar magazine voted it #1 for guitars under $500. Most people looking in this price range will end up choosing the Washburn or the Seagull.

There are several good choices priced lower for acoustic beginner guitar players including the Yamaha F310, Takamine G-240 and Fender DG7. If you can only afford the cheapest acoustic model available, you should place the Epiphone DR-100 at the top of your list . Now, this particular guitar, priced reasonably at $120-$150, is truly meant for beginners and, as such, you will have to trade up to a more sophisticated option once your skills have improved considerably.

When you are looking for your first guitar, avoid the very cheap ones. These are actually harder to play and can be hard for even an experienced player. A cheaper made acoustic beginner guitar is just not made well and usually have really high action, meaning there is more space between the strings and the fingerboard than the more expensive guitars. This can make a beginner just give up.

If you were planning on spending around $100 or less, a second hand acoustic beginner guitar is a good option. One of the benefits would be the guitar having some character. Take for example, two second hand Yamaha F310’s. Try them both out as they will likely have distinctly different sounds. These sounds may even give you some insight on the personality of who owned the guitar before.

Ever hear the saying, “never buy a guitar from a jerk”? Whether a guitar picks up a “personality” from it’s owner is a point to be debated, however most guitar owners treat their instruments like people. So when you look for your first acoustic beginner guitar keep this in mind. Pay attention to the guitar’s “vibe”, and even if it sounds great, but doesn’t feel right somehow, pass on it.

If you are a beginner and can’t play worth a dime, ask the store associate to play the acoustic beginner guitar you are considering buying. Any sales person at a guitar store will be able to figure out that you would like to actually hear the sound of the acoustic beginner guitar before making a purchase. Who knows, maybe they will be assisting the next great acoustic guitar player!

Is an Instrumental Acoustic Guitar Right for You?

by Joe Martin

Many people are lured by the mystery and romance of an instrumental acoustic guitar. It can produce spicy and passionate flamenco pieces as well as soft melodic tunes for a wide range of beautiful sounds. While most people don’t think about its range when they think about the instrumental acoustic guitar, everyone can appreciate the beautiful music from an acoustic guitar.

Do you ever wish you knew how to play the guitar? Does walking past one in the store window make you long to walk inside, pick it up, put one hand lovingly around the neck and caress the strings gently with the other, and begin playing a tune? Have you ever thought about how expensive it would be to take lessons? Or how difficult it would be to learn?

You think about how fun it would be to play the instrument at family get-togethers or for your friends at parties. But then, you think about how difficult it would be to learn, or how much lessons might cost. Also, you wouldn’t know where to find the time to learn how to play properly.

You may think that instrumental acoustic guitars are magical, but not by themselves. The magic is in the music, not the guitar. It can be compared to the time when you were a child learning how to use a pencil to write words. As you grew up, you developed the ability to write well and started to write all kinds of material including research papers. The pencil was simply a medium to create your writing. The same principle applies to acoustic guitars. The guitar is just an instrument you use to make music. The learning process of writing is similar to how one learns to play acoustic guitars. Initially, before you learned how to play the guitar, you just tinkered with one at a store, much like scribbling with a pencil. You observed what would happen if you moved your hands a certain way or another. At first, you started to learn how to be comfortable with the guitar and practiced, then eventually, your fingers learned to move the right way on their own. Very soon, your guitar becomes an extension of your hands, a vehicle through which you express your thoughts. With practice, all this is possible.

An instrumental acoustic guitar has a kind of draw to it, but people who have never played guitar before are often amazed by them. It is often assumed that there is much more to the instrument than there actually is. The ability to produce music is almost mystical to some.

The acoustic guitar’s impressiveness can often lead to an attitude that causes people to approach it too delicately. They forget that guitars were meant to be used and that the power behind the music comes from the power the person gives to it.

The investment of time and energy it takes to learn to play an instrumental acoustic guitar will not be wasted. So dig out the one in the attic or purchase one at your local music store or even online but either way you won’t be disappointed.

Acoustic Guitar Deals

by Bart R

The material from which it is crafted is usually a main factor in the pricing of a guitar. Some guitars are manufactured using graphite or plastic in place of the traditional wood, but even in a cheap acoustic guitar wood makes it possible to achieve the tone you really want to produce. Cheap acoustic guitars made from materials other than wood often sound flat and lifeless, and new players are likely to find them frustrating. It is better to pay slightly more for an inexpensive wooden guitar than to buy a plastic one.

The Seagull S6 model isn’t the most cheap acoustic guitar there is but it offers extraordinary bang for the buck. You can’t talk about guitars for beginners without discussing this model. It comes with a top that is solid cedar and the sides and back are crafted from mahogany that gives it an attractive sound. It’s the sort of guitar that professional musicians hang onto, even though they own far more expensive guitars. Although $400-$500 might be more than you considered spending, you should really think about investing in this guitar. You might be able to find some online deals for this familiar and highly regarded musical instrument.

A solid, dependable choice for a cheap acoustic guitar is the Yamaha F310. It features a top of solid spruce along with a back and sides made from mahogany. The price might fit better for your budget, coming in at $150-$200 and it is a universal choice for the serious novice.

If you are looking for something in the next lower price range for cheap acoustic guitars, the Epiphone DR-100 is a great guitar that retails between $120-150. The sides and back are mahogany, and the top is made from spruce. It’s made for the beginner, so there will come a time when you’ll need to trade up. This is the perfect choice if you know you want to learn the guitar, but aren’t quite sure in how long your interest will last.

If you are looking for a cheap acoustic guitar for less than $100, you will not find one of decent quality. At that price range, most guitars are scarcely playable. Some people who try to learn to play soon quit after trying to deal with a cheap guitar. They are just too shoddily made. If you have been thinking of getting a cheap guitar for yourself, or if you are thinking of getting one for your child, don’t bother with the guitars in the $100 or less range. It will just turn you off from guitar playing.

It’s better to get a second-hand guitar in good shape than the poor new one you may find at $80. Guitars have quite a long life and you may prefer a decent second-hand guitar with some personality to a new one of poor quality. The best move is to find a dealer with a large number of second-hand cheap acoustic guitars and then try them until you discover the one that suits you better.

A solid wood top is a must-have, even for a cheap acoustic guitar. A guitar with with a solid wood top, instead of a plywood top, has a richer and fuller tone. A guitar with also the sides and the back made of solid wood is even better, if your budget allows it.

Playing your first acoustic guitar

by P R jones

Playing a guitar for extended periods of time is really stressful for your back if you don’t have good posture. Keeping the following key points in mind should help you maintain a good posture and hold your guitar correctly. When you hold your guitar, the back of the instrument should rest against your abdomen. For people who use the right hand for playing guitar, the neck of the guitar will point to their left. The guitar body should rest on your right thigh. Your left hand should go around the guitar’s neck while your right arm goes around the body so your hand is near the strings. If it doesn’t feel right, try to shift your body around until you feel comfortable and relaxed.

For right handed guitar players, you will use your left hand to form the notes and chords. Bend the fingers on your left hand so they are pressing the strings down on the fret board.

The guitar neck’s back is curved, so that your hand will naturally conform with the shape of its neck. Your thumb should arch over the top of the neck when you hold it properly. From there, your thumb is in position for constructing chords. When you are constructing chords it is ok to press your thumb into the back of the guitar neck, although this is more in common with playing guitar scales. You should try both thumb positions and then you will be able to use the one that is most comfortable for you.

Strum the strings with your right hand to make sounds. Position your right arm over the body of the guitar. Your right bicep should rest on the top of the guitar. Position your right hand in front of the guitar’s sound hole. When playing guitar, the sound comes out of the sound hole.

Many people make use of a pick when playing guitar. Simply hold the pick between the thumb and forefinger of your right hand. Draw the pick across the strings you want to play. It’s similar to plucking the string but you use a little bit more pressure than you normally would when strumming with your fingers.

Left-handed musicians do not need to worry. There are two options for playing guitar left handed. First, you can re-string a right-handed guitar to reverse the order of the strings. Second, you can buy a specially made left-handed guitar.

While playing guitar, maintaining proper body position as well as holding the guitar correctly while playing will enable you to play for longer durations as well as to to produce right sound. Don’t be tempted to slump into what you think is a cool-looking position, you’ll end up feeling tired too soon and look ridiculous as well.

The Guitar Evolution, From Ancient India To American Rock Stars

I was given my first acoustic guitar when I was seventeen a few days before my eighteenth birthday, with the intention of one day learning how to play it. This was a short-lived venture as now eight years later it is still living in its grey leather case possibly gathering dust in the back of my room. Guitar experts will be shocked by the notion of any acoustic guitars being treated in this fashion, however, if one is to buy one they need to be prepared to spend lots of time practising and drilling each day to get better at playing it.

The historical value of acoustic guitars is far greater than what is perceived. In fact, this is one of the oldest instruments to have ever been used, much older than the piano or the violin. Guitars available today come in various elaborate styles, functionality and produce interesting sounds. Some synthesized guitars have a certain affect compared to what they did in the past.

History

Before the heavy metal rock stars, before the indie/alternative music scene and before all the folk acoustic guitars that hit the charts, the guitar was a musical instrument appreciated way back as far as 2000BC. The guitar itself derived from the Ancient Indian Sitara, an instrument that is in use even today within the Hindustani culture. Its’ features are similar to that of a guitar, however, very basic in appearance and with a hollowed round gourd.

The term ‘guitar’ was coined by the English from the Spanish word ‘guitarra’, which in turn was derived from the Latin ‘cithara’ and prior to this from the Greek ‘kithara’. Thus coming back to the Persian word of ’sihtar’, which is associated to the word sitar in India. The Romans introduced the modern guitar (known as cithara), as we know it around 40AD to Hispania. This was adapted and followed by the oud, which was a four-string instrument, brought by the Moors, in the 8th century.

The six-string guitar was popularised by the Scandinavians and across through Eastern Europe. This was commonly associated with the Viking excursions across the continent. The Spanish ‘Vihuela’ in the 16th century appeared to depict the modern guitar and a step away from the renaissance instrument. It looked like it had a lute-style tuning with a guitar like body.

It was not until in Italy of the mid 18th century that saw Gaetano Vinaccia produce his guitar label, with the distinct appearance of a mandolin. This had six strings and did not show signs of a modification from a double-course guitar, as it was common for fake guitar labels to be created.

The co-founder of now famous Richenbacher, George Beauchamp, patented the first electric guitar in 1936. This was the turning point of guitar music and the birth of a new innovative sound. It was Danelectro that produced the first electric guitar for the public, giving a chance for new talented musicians to be as creative as possible. Nowadays people are more familiar with both electric and acoustic guitars, with many famous bands (particularly, rock, metal, indie and jazz bands) use this to produce modern music.

This is no longer a privileged instrument used only by jesters and servants, for the rich and wealthy, but is also available for people to use freely from the comfort of their own homes.

Guitar Playing Styles - Which One Is For You?

Some guitarists can perform all of the many different styles of guitar playing whilst others just concentrate on their favorites and leave it at that. The majority of styles can be played on either electric or acoustic instruments. However, heavy metal music would be played on an electric guitar and styles such as flamenco or classical require the nylon strings of an acoustic model.

When you are new to playing the guitar its best if you stay with the one style you know until you are confident with it, and then, if you so choose you can move on to learn another one. For example, if you like the blues make sure you learn the techniques of slides, bending the strings, hammer-ons and pull-offs and the vibrato that is required. Playing the blues on a guitar with steel strings will involve a different technique as there is not a great deal of room between each string and the fretboard is narrower. In order to get the right tone pitches when playing the blues it is important to master string pulling.

Another very popular style of guitar playing is jazz. Although acoustic guitars with steel strings are the most frequently used guitars to play jazz, many players also prefer to use an electric steel guitar. Jazz musicians learn how to play several different chords and also to cobble together the use of scales, arpeggios and modes within the tune’s chord progression, known as “comping”, which is an abbreviation of accompanying.

Playing “classical” music requires no pick, so if picks are your thing, it would be appropriate to choose a different style. This music is played on a classical guitar and is usually well known and long lasting amongst its audience as opposed to music styles which come and go quite quickly. To play this style of music all four fingers are placed on the frets and the thumb and three fingers of the “picking” hand are used. As the player uses fingernails and the fleshy part of the fingers when playing classical music, it is necessary for the guitar strings to be made of nylon. If you try it with steel strings you are likely to remove your finger nails and the sound would be totally ruined.

The distorted and severe sound and speed of heavy metal is appreciated by many guitarists and you will often hear a guitar solo being played in the middle of a song with the vocals and drumming featured around the solo.

Guitar styles are categorized into defined varieties and each has their own individual flavors. Folk, bluegrass, and country are some of the other well know styles and they all have their die hard fans.

A Brief History of Taylor Guitars

Taylor Guitars got its official start in 1974 with its founders, Bob Taylor and Kurt Listug. However, the story begins much earlier than that in the 60s when popular music spurred by the Beatles got a lot of people itching to play the guitar. The founders were young then, but they started their love of the guitar at around this time.

Eventually, this itch led them to the purchase of a guitar shop with another friend, Steve Schemmer. The shop was modest, and information on the Taylor Guitars site reveals that it was less than ideal. They constantly dealt with water leaks and flooding. But, everyone needs to start somewhere! Their beginnings were rocky and difficult and that first workshop seems to signify that.

Together, the three operated this shop which was then called the Westland Music Company. Their original business idea had the company selling guitars and their parts, repairing them, building them etc. They also decided to call their guitar line Taylors after Bob Taylor, the accomplished luthier of the group. Thus, the long process of trying to run a company and make top notch guitars begins in this little shop.

Long story short, they were eventually successful at both. Now, their company employs over 300 people, all of which play different roles in the company. Kurt Listug is still heavily involved with the company as CEO. They are successful, and the Taylor Acoustic is considered amongst the best acoustic guitars and has achieved world wide renown.

They manufacture 14 different acoustic guitar styles, with multiple models within each category. These include the Bob Taylor, named for the head Luthier, the 100 through the 900 Series, the Presentation Series, the Nylon Series, the KOA Series, and the Walnut Series.

There are also plenty of artists who enjoy their Taylor Acoustic guitars. These include Chris Procter, Pat Kirtley, Artie Traum, Wayne Johnson, Leo Klottke, Babyface, Faith Hill, Billy Idol, Stephen King, Better than Ezra, and scores others. Taylor are considered a special guitar by there owners.

Here is a review on a Taylor Guitar:

About the Taylor PC14C

I play finger style guitar and finger style solo guitar. First: This is a very expensive guitar which is made to be the top model of Taylor. So if you want to be able to get the real sound out of real good guitar: play with your fingers. Second: Ill love almost any good guitar. Every guitar should be heard for his own character and sound. So how does my PS 14 sound? Well with the well known Taylor sparkle in the highs and a very thick creamy mid and warm basses. The sound is very, very rich.

The history or Taylor guitar is a modern day success story, from an American Manufacturer that is still going strong.

Guitar Sucks You In. So Tune up Your Life

You rarely, if ever, come across a guy or a girl who hasn’t heard of guitar, let alone see it or play it. Not a surprise, if you knew the history which has thrown up countless styles of this stringed instrument. It runs for over 5000 years, pictures and figurines are reclaimed from Iranian sites that depict playing instruments similar to guitars.

But why could it retain its popularity for so long a time? It is not mysterious to answer this question, at all. Guitars acclimate perfectly well with classical styles as it does with popular and rock styles, play it as a solo instrument or use as an accompaniment, it is fine. It is also fine to choose guitars with six, eight, ten or even 12 strings, as you like. In a nut shell, guitar is a great escape when you are lonely and depressed.

Types of Guitars
There are just two types to divide guitars.

1.Acoustic type: These classic guitars are fondly known as Hawaiian guitars too. They don’t need outside inputs to amplify the acoustics but can do so themselves, even though they are now a day available fitted with electric gadgets to power the amplification needs. What still beckons is the loudness which is absent.

2.Electric type: Electric guitars pickup mechanical vibrations of strings for amplification by first picking them up via radio or electric signals and then amplifying. The built-in electronic part of the guitar uses semiconductor chips to manage the whole thing unlike the vacuum diodes and valves of the yester era. If you are interested, the electric guitars score over their poor country cousins, the classic acoustic guitars, in many ways such as tapping, hammer-on, legato and pull-offs to name a few.

There are countless sub varieties that combine the plusses of both or otherwise simply stand out. There are hybrid guitars that combine acoustic and electric guitars. Don’t be surprised to see double necked or a 5.1 surround guitar too.

Guitar and the Beginner
Don’t worry if you are challenged for time these days. You can easily find a guitar lesson designed especially for the beginners over the internet. Although this calls for greater dedication and passion as opposed to being taught by a musician, you have the comfort of making your time table, beginning where you want to, and the complete absence of that embarrassed feel in the beginning when you produce some funny noises plucking your strings.

Saddle up again guitar is all about spicing up life.
